Janay Nelson is a versatile multi-instrumentalist and educator. She plays guitar, ukulele, and drums and has experience across most genres including rock, jazz, blues, funk, country, metal, and pop. Early on she discovered that music was not just a passion but a way to connect with others.
Janay began playing at 12 and teaching at 16 years old at various schools of music. At 18, Janay picked up the drums and quickly developed a deep connection with the instrument. She honed her skills and soon began teaching drums as well, adding another dimension to her musicianship and expanding her ability to inspire and guide students.
A graduate of MacEwan University with a Music Diploma and a Minor in Education, Janay’s approach to music is rooted in patience, perseverance, and understanding — recognizing that each student’s journey is unique.
Influenced by bands and artists such as Van Halen, Tool, Extreme, Dream Theater, Anika Niles, Cory Wong, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Janay’s playing blends technical precision with groove, energy, and a genuine love for sharing music with others.
Janay's $29 per half hour.

Curiosity is what drives great music and art — and it’s at the heart of everything I teach. It’s the secret ingredient to making new discoveries, learning faster and continually improving each year.
Whether you’re learning your first song or refining your approach to technique, I’m here to help you grow. I’ve worked with some of the world’s top drummers, and I’d be honoured to share what I’ve learned with you. I studied at Capilano University from 2012 - 2013, and was part of the team at Drumeo from 2016 - 2020. Since then, I have been carving my own path teaching/delivering clinics and masterclasses across Canada, the U.S and Europe.
Reuben's rate is $33 per half hour.
Our Group Lessons:
Rock band class is an exciting place where kids come together to make music as a group! Everyone gets a role, whether it’s drums, guitar, keyboard, or vocals and learns how their part fits into the bigger sound. Just like a real band, students practice listening to each other, staying on beat, and working together to learn and play songs. It’s not just about playing instruments, but about building confidence, creativity, and teamwork while having fun and sharing the experience of making music as one!
Location: 13651 149th St NW
Dates: July 29th, 31st, August 1st, 5th, 7th, 8th
*** Showcase on the evening of August 8th! ***
Time: 12.30pm - 2.30pm (More times may become available depending on level of interest!)

Don’t have a drum kit or want to add something new to your sound? Flip a bucket upside down and start creating your own beats! Using a pair of sticks, we’ll explore the elements of rhythm with a simple everyday object, similarly to the performers in Blue Man Group, who turn unexpected items into music. Imagine you’re in a band, playing for a crowd or jamming with friends as you groove along to songs. You can experiment with quiet and loud, fast and slow, making music that’s fun, creative, and completely your own.
Learn to play different songs using different rhythms and parts of the bucket and sticks to make diverse sounds.
Come have some fun!
